Talk:Leave
From USAFA Folklore

OK, this one is for Hector and his ilk, who like to point out that, in the old days, there was no such thing as cadet leave. And they served cold gruel at Mitch's, and they had to march to lunch five times a day on upturned tacks--and they liked it! - Tarfu92 15:36, 27 December 2007 (CST)
- It will be difficult for me to fill out the table because leaves varied according to Class and Class Year, e.g., our Class of 1961 reported to USAFA in July 1957 and had no (zero, zilch, nada) leave until the summer of 1958. There was no Christmas leave, no Thanksgiving leave, no Spring break leave etc...As third classmen through first classmen, we had two weeks leave during Christmas and four weeks of leave during the Summer. That is all. After graduation, you had a choice between 30 days leave or 60 days of leave. Most of us took the 30 days of leave and reported to our first duty station. We never ate "cold gruel" at the Dining Hall. As a matter of fact the food was outstanding. I am shocked when I visit Mitchell Hall and taste the "stuff" being served to cadets. And yes, we marched to every meal seven days a week, we had a weekly parade (regardless of weather), we marched to our first morning class and to our first afternoon class. And no, we did not like it but we did it.(Hector Negroni, Class of 1961.
Let me see if I can make it work. - Tarfu92 11:12, 28 December 2007 (CST)
[edit] 59-66
Hector: The '59-'66 statement--that applied to fourth classmen only, correct, that had to stick around over christmas? - Tarfu92 08:14, 7 January 2008 (CST)
