[edit] Jacks or Jack's?

Someone just made an edit on the USAFA Wikipedia article, changing "Jack's" to "Jacks" (prior to the ones I made). I always thought it was "Jack's", so I went to check the recent "Webguy" pictures here (registration may be needed?), and sure enough, it says "Jacks" on the sign at the entrance of the training area--although it looks like there may have been an apostrophe that's been painted over in brown. Anyone know the skinny? And, putting aside the fact that he was a badass, who WAS Jack, really? - Tarfu92 12:55, 29 July 2008 (CDT)

Jacks Valley is named after Jack Schitt, a former associate of Nino Baldachi.
Who was Jack Schitt? The lineage is finally revealed! Many people are at a loss for a response when someone says: "You don't know Jack Schitt."
Now you can intellectually handle the situation:
Jack is the only son of Awe Schitt. Awe Schitt, the fertilizer magnate, married O. Schitt, the owner of Needeep N. Schitt. They had one son, Jack. In turn, Jack Schitt married Noe Schitt. The Deeply religious couple produced six children: Holie Schitt, Fulla Schitt, Giva Schitt, Bull Schitt, and the twins Deap Schitt and Dip Schitt. Against her parents objection, Deap Schitt married Dumb Schitt, a high school dropout. After being married for 15 years, Jack and Noe Schitt divorced. Noe Schitt later remarried Ted Sherlock and, because her kids were still living with them, she wanted to keep her previous name. She was then known as Noe Shitt Sherlock. Meanwhile, Dip Schitt married Loda Schitt and they produced a son of nervous disposition, Chicken Schitt. Chicken Schitt was a legendary but despised AOC at USAFA. Two of the other six children, Fulla Schitt and Giva Schitt, were inseparable throughout childhood and subsequently married the Happens brothers in a dual ceremony. The wedding announcement in the newspaper announced the Schitt-Happens Wedding. The Schitt-Happens children were Daawg, Byrd, Hoarse and Bull. Bull Schitt, the prodigal son, left home to tour the world. He recently returned from Italy with his new Italian bride, Pisa Schitt. So now when someone says "You don't know Jack Schitt", You can correct them! (Hector Negroni, Class of 1961)

Cute. Now does anyone really know who Jack was? - Tarfu92 14:16, 29 July 2008 (CDT)

I have done extensive historical and topographic research and the best answer that I can come up with is that Jack or Jack's Valley (it appears both ways in documents and maps)is nothing more than a place name, similar to other "valleys" within the USAFA Reservation, e.g., Douoglas Valley and Pine Valley. As to who "Jack" was, this is probably lost in the passage of time. Regardless, little did Jack know that people would be wondering about him, otherwise, he would have left a clearer written record. OK, not to go all Wikipedia on you here, Bloemer, but where's the evidence of this naming origin as the "correct" one? Or is it rumor/legend? (which is fine too--this is the folklore site--it should just be noted as such) The USAFA Admissions site refers to it as "Jack's", and a picture I've seen of a recent BCT said "Jacks", but it was clear that the apostrophe had been painted over. Perhaps add to the Talk:Jack's Valley page.-- Tarfu92 18:20, 10 December 2008 (CST)

I'll also note that a handful of recent USAFA press releases say "Jacks", but both the recent Commandant's "parent's update" and the "BCT FAQ" on the Comm's web page use "Jack's" and "Jacks" interchangeably. So I think what is correct may be open to debate. - Tarfu92 08:11, 11 December 2008 (CST)
