A T-38 Talon (serial no. 59-1602), is located at the Thunderbird Overlook, adjacent to the Academy Airfield. The aircraft was given to the Academy in 1973. The T-38 is currently painted in the colors of the Thunderbirds and bears the name of Major Norm Lowry, who served as commander of the Thunderbirds and who was killed during the Thunderbirds' four-ship crash in January 1982.

Before it was installed at the Overlook (and before it was painted in the Thunderbird colors), this T-38 stood at the northwest corner of the Terrazzo, where the F-16 is now.
