Operation Non-com
From USAFA Folklore
In the late 1970s, for one three week summer period, all incoming third class cadets took part in Operation Non-com, where they would be assigned to an operational base, live in the Airman's Barracks and perform enlisted jobs in order to gain an appreciation for those the graduates would lead upon graduation. For example in one three week period at Luke AFB, cadets spent one week working in NORS control having spare parts flown around the world for aircraft maintenance, one week working at MWR functions such as the O Club and the gym, and one week with the communications unit.
