Louise Brown was the Wing Hostess at the Academy from 1977 until 1987.

Because of who she was and what she did, most people figured her for some snooty, stuffy know-it-all. But, she was really pretty cool. True story: My roommate, me, several other smacks getting wasted on good ol' 3.2 at Arnie's. Everyone drinking through straws (supposed to help get you buzzed faster?) when I stuck one of his cigarettes into the end of his straw. He decides "fuck it" and smokes it through the straw. Out of nowhere, Mrs. B appears at our table, and before we could freak, she tells him to be careful because she (almost?) caught her hair on fire doing the same thing. Gave all of us at the table a whole new level of respect for her that night. Later, in 1987, she retired.

In her brief farewell speech to the Wing, all I remember is that she said we were all welcome to visit her and her husband at their Daytona Beach home. Very pro-forma, yet very fitting for someone whose role is to be the prototypical proper hostess.

She was replaced by a snooty bitch named Cinda (with an "a") Sue something. Budget cuts got her job deleted and she cried to the G-T something along the lines that if the AF wanted the Academy to turn out something like uncultured blah, blah, blah, she'd just have to live with it.
