LZ

The LZ (Landing Zone) is the small hill immediately west of the Cadet Area, immediately between the Cadet Chapel and the Visitor Center. At one time, the Polaris Tower Memorial was located on the slopes of this hill, until it was moved to the Academy Cemetery. The hill is moderately steep and rises to about 250 feet above the Terrazzo level. The top of the hill is very flat and devoid of trees or other vegetation, earning it the nickname of LZ.

The hill is frequently used by the Cadet Honor Guard for training fourth class Honor Guard candidates.
