Flatiron
From USAFA Folklore
The Flatiron is a large, pyramid-shaped hill visible from the cadet area and I-25. It is named "Pyramid Hill" on some of the early geological surveys of the area.
[edit] Spirit Missions on the Flatiron
One of the most common spirit missions involves use of extra sheets which were placed on the Flatiron. The sheets were used to form the letter of a basic cadet squadron, the number of a cadet squadron, class year numbers, and sayings such as "Beat Army" or "Sink Navy." These spirit missions took place during the night when cadets were confined to quarters.
In recent years (2006-onward), the Flatiron has been placed off limits due to the excessive erosion: the grade is relatively steep (~30ยบ), and the hill is covered in loose dirt with sparse vegetation to hold it down.
