Door locks

The combination of locks and keys for cadet dorm rooms has changed at various times throughout the Academy's history. The changes have reflected a shifing balance between safety/security considerations and fostering an environment that respects the Honor Code.

| 1976 - 1980 | Yes | Yes | Doors were required to be locked when out of the room and after Taps for all cadets. CQs had a ring of keys to assist firsties who never carried keys and those who forgot. |

| 1986 - 1992 | Yes | No | Doors were generally not locked, with the exception of long weekends and leave periods. Doors could also be locked without repercussion when somone was in the room and wanted privacy, including after Taps. All doors were required to be open from Revielle until after noon meal. |
| 2003 - present | Yes | Yes | Leaving one's room unlocked while unattended, even for but a minute to go to the bathroom, is considered a security violation. |
