Drum and Bugle Corps
Established: 1972
Club type: Mission

The Cadet Drum and Bugle Corps (D&B) is comprised of about 135 cadets and has represented the Air Force Academy at presidential inaugural parades, Macy's Thanksgiving Day parades, Tournament of Roses parades, Mardi Gras parades, and Special Olympic opening ceremonies. Since the Cadets took over control in 1972, they have won 20 of the 30 Inter-Service Academy Drum and Bugle Corps Competitions. They are introduced at performances as the "Flight of Sound." During the mid-80s, their "Flight of Sound" song started with a version of ELPs "Fanfare For The Common Man" from 1977 (which in turn was ELPs rendition of Aaron Copeland's original from 1942). D & B regularly performs at Noon Meal Formation and at Academy sporting events.

[edit] Making Fun of D&B

D&B are the butt of many jokes by cadets. Pejorative names for D&B include "Dumb and Bungle", "Beat and Blow" and "Frat and Travel".
