Confinements are the alternative to tours. Confinements are served by cadets who are on academic probation or unable to march due to injury. Cadets serving confinements wear service dress and must spend their time doing homework or studying.

The characteristics of confinements have varied over the years. At times, one hour of confinement was equal to one tour; in other years, two hours of confinement were required to equal one tour. Also, confinements were usually served in the cadet's room, but sometimes they were served en masse in the lectinars or in a large auditorium. Confinements are usually scheduled, and can only be checked off by cadets who sit during the scheduled time period, but at times cadets could serve confinements at their discretion, such as during the weekend, and have them signed off by the academic officer.
