Date Location Artist/Performer Notes
197_ Smith
197_ Bill Cosby
197_ Paul Mauriat
197_ Glen Yarbrough?
197_ Fieldhouse Seals & Crofts One of the spotlight towers adjacent to their stage in the Field House fell down and took out the drums. The drummer bailed in the nick o' time; half-gainer in the pike position off the stage. The band kept on playing thru it all - but that sorta truncated the concert after that song.
197_ Fieldhouse Firefall Played on a small stage in the Field House on that narrow area between the hockey rink and the basketball arena.
197_ A-Hall William Shatner Did some dramatic readings and such, in A-Hall. As a warm-up to Shatner, they showed (most of) the Star Trek episode "Shore Leave". That episode had numerous references to Kirk's plebe days at Star Fleet Academy, and "beating the tar out of Finnegan", that everyone could relate to... Actually, the "Shore Leave" flick was more entertaining than Shatner's ego-on-display... After about 10 minutes of Shatner I felt like I was in one of those mandatory Distinguished Speaker thingamajigs.
1976/77 Fieldhouse Harry Chapin Chapin was a former 4ยบ, Class of 1964. Very well received. He told anecdotes about when he was a smack. He said his inability to cage his eyeballs led to his designation by upperclassmen as "Gapin' Chapin".

[edit] Notes

  • One bonus of having these shows at the Academy is that your squadron buds would often be on security detail, making for excellent opportunities to get backstage to chill with the bands.
  • Off campus, on 5 Jun 83, U2 performed their "Live At Red Rocks" concert (listed by Rolling Stone as "one of the 50 moments that changed rock & roll").
