Class unity

Class unity is a concept that developed around the fourth class system. Basically, it is the notion that all members of a class (particularly the fourth class) succeed or fail as a unit, and includes that concept that no member of the class should stand out (in either a good or bad way) from his or her classmates.

Class Unity always seemed to be used as a "catch-all" to get either a fourth class cadet or a group of smacks in trouble regardless of performance.

In order to develop "class unity," the Classes of 1959, 1960, 1961,1962. 1963, and 1964 did not leave the Academy for Christmas leave during their first year at USAFA. They stayed at the Academy and as a result were able to develop very strong class ties. (Hector Negroni, 1961).
