Cadet X
From USAFA Folklore
When serious disciplinary actions are taken against a cadet, a summary, sometimes referred to as a "Cadet X" letter, is typically released as a training tool for cadets. To protect the identities of those involved, the names are removed and replaced with letters. Such a summary might start, "On the night of 1 JUN, Cadet X left the Academy grounds, even though he did not have any passes." Cadet X letters are frequently used to communicate incidents involving violations or near-violations of the Honor Code.
Although the Cadet X Letter may involve more variables (Cadet Y, Cadet Z, etc.) the term "Cadet X" is generally understood to represent any cadet involved in a serious offense.
In the older days, Cadet X Letters were used exclusively to publicly describe honor cases.
